
According to the estimated data of the Central Health Service of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, as of January 1, 2021, in Ukraine, 5% (2,107,660 citizens) are infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV), of which 3.6% have chronic HCV. As of April 1, 2021, the estimated number of people infected with HCV is likely to reach 2,122,400 people, and 1,528,128 people have chronic HCV.
| As of June 1, 2021, there are no data translation tools for Kyiv in Ukraine, because no population survey was conducted. Therefore, to calculate the estimated number of infected with HCV and patients with chronic HCV in the city of Kyiv, the following statistical data are used. | ||||||

Prioritization and strengthening of hepatitis C (HCV) elimination measures at all levels, as a socially dangerous disease, is a strategic axis for the development of the national healthcare system in the coming years.
Therefore, the BSD NGO team, in partnership with the Charitable Organization “100% Life. Kyiv Region,” with technical support from specialists of the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, within the framework of the project “Accelerating progress in reducing the burden of tuberculosis and HIV infection in Kyiv and Kyiv region,” and with financial support from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, conducted a research study to identify gaps in the diagnosis and treatment of HCV in Kyiv.
This Expert Analysis is intended to serve as a foundation for further advocacy steps toward eliminating the HCV epidemic for patient NGOs, as well as a roadmap for stakeholders.
