My name is Yuriy Voynalovich. I am the executive director of the patient advocacy organization “BCD” and co-author of the section on viral hepatitis in the online training course “Social Work with Families and Individuals in the Context of HIV, Tuberculosis, and Viral Hepatitis B, C, and D.”
Why viral hepatitis?
In 2021, the BCD team, together with “100 Percent Life. Kyiv Region,” conducted a study in Kyiv.
The figures are striking:
190,000—that figure is equal to the population of the Podilskyi district!!! And only one in 20 knows their diagnosis and has sought help.
Why do you need this?
People in difficult life situations seek help
to you. People with viral hepatitis need, first and foremost, acceptance, support, and professional help.
Unfortunately, there are still myths in our society that viral hepatitis is a disease of marginalized groups:
90% of the inquiries our organization receives begin with words of “justification”: don’t think I’m this or that… I’m just an ordinary person, a teacher, a nurse, a taxi driver… And we first reassure people, and then provide assistance.
Thanks to this course, you can also gain practical knowledge on how to assist people with suspected or diagnosed ADHD and where to refer them.
How can we help you?
You can always seek advice and refer people who need help with prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of viral hepatitis to BCD specialists.
Amid a full-scale war, the situation with the viral hepatitis epidemic is only getting worse.
Injuries, blood, infection risks, lack of resources… But when we stand together, we can overcome any enemy.
Let’s work together to overcome the viral hepatitis epidemic.
