Yuriy Voynalovich, a resident of Kyiv, was fortunate to detect a dangerous disease in time. He was 35 years old when he was diagnosed with viral hepatitis C. In 2007, he registered with a doctor for another condition and decided to undergo a comprehensive examination. One of the tests was specifically for hepatitis, and it confirmed the presence of hepatitis C in his body.
“The disease didn’t manifest itself in any way. The only thing that worried me was that I couldn’t gain weight. I was 183 cm tall and weighed 76 kg. Besides that, I occasionally had joint pain,” says Yuriy Voynalovich.
After the disease was diagnosed, Yuriy underwent further testing and sought information about treatment.
“At that time, in 2007, it was a paid treatment and quite expensive. The course cost about $11,000. At the same time, its effectiveness and safety were questionable. Treatment lasted from six months to a year and offered a 50-50 chance of success—meaning it might help or it might not,” the man adds.
At the time, he did not begin treatment due to its cost and doubts about its effectiveness. Over time, the man started a family, and his wife was also diagnosed with viral hepatitis C.
– 2016 was a turning point for us. I made it my goal to cure my wife. I stumbled upon a special program funded by an international foundation. They provided two hepatitis C medications for free; we had to purchase the third one ourselves. We joined the program and, believe it or not, completely overcame the disease in 12 weeks! Now we’re both healthy, and the virus hasn’t come back, – Yuriy continues.
